Information
ABOUT MY WORK
I work as a Fine Art and Design print specialist in my studio and as a Technical Demonstrator at York St John University where I teach undergraduates and Masters Copperplate etching, Letterpress, all relief processes, Collagraph, Solarplate and Screen Printing techniques.
I was educated at York College of Art and Design and the University of Brighton where I specialised in fine art printmaking and have been practising professionally as a fine artist since 1993.
Exhibiting my work internationally and more recently in non-gallery based settings such as on site construction canteens, I have spent most of my working practice based on sites in transition.
In 1995 I won my first contract and commission from Shepherd Construction to record their portakabin site. Since then I have worked as Artist in Residence for companies and contractors, including Hiscox Insurance, BAM Construction, Bowmer and Kirkland Construction, Caddick Construction, City of York Council, York Archaeological Trust and ISG Construction.
Recording the development of Monks Cross on the edgelands of York and Hungate, I have recorded the demise of a popular swimming pool and rugby stadium, the construction of a shopping centre and the completion of a very modern office.
Pending a new community stadium at Monks Cross and new dwellings in Hungate, the landscape has presented some distinct social and economic values and these values are the foundations for my work.
Businesses and contractors have generously granted me access to many inaccessible places that no longer exist or have grown to be part of the city. I am grateful to be part of these huge social changes that are being brought about through new investment and continue to invest my own time making prints which hopefully reflect our history past, present and future.
